JA It’s My Business! will meet the programming needs of a diverse group of students by providing engaging, academically enriching, and experiential learning sessions in entrepreneurship.
The study of entrepreneurship is not the same as studying business. Learning how to be a successful entrepreneur does not necessarily require a business school degree. A simple definition of an entrepreneur is a person who starts his or her own business with the intent of earning a profit. What makes an entrepreneur successful? The bedrock of entrepreneurship is the ability to come up with a great product or service. And to do that, the businessperson must become an expert at something, whether it’s complicated or simple. Also, the individual must be highly motivated and have a working knowledge of the
following entrepreneurial characteristics:
- Fill a Need
Know the market need and your potential competitors. - Know Your Customer and Product
Have expert knowledge of both the customer and the product. - Be Creative and Innovative
Think outside the box. Look for new and different solutions to needs that have been identified. - Believe in Yourself
Identify your likes, skills, and abilities. Work to improve them.
Following participation in the program, students will be able to apply their entrepreneurial skills to education, career, and service pursuits.
